I have to admit, choosing my top 5 most indispensable kitchen utensils seriously stressed me out. I could have easily picked ten or fifteen.

To make it simpler, I narrowed my choices by eliminating knives and cutting boards right off the bat and went with the five tools I use every day that improve my cooking skills and the flavor of my finished dishes.

1. Silicon spatula
2. Wooden spoon
3. Instant read thermometer
4. Tongs
5. Microplane zester and grater
